Experiencing low engagement can be very disheartening. However, it’s important to remember that low engagement isn’t permanent - it’s temporary! Here are 5 things you should do when you’re experiencing low engagement:

Tip 1: Stay Consistent

  • Stay consistent with your content! Continue to build your channel and make sure that the foundation you have is solid.
  • Even if there is no one giving you feedback right now, there will be someone who will come along to interact and appreciate your work.

Tip 2: Call to Action

  • Having a call to action (CTA) in your captions is a great and simple way to encourage engagement.
  • Your CTA shouldn’t be just random “fluff”. Your audience will sniff out inauthenticity right away. Make your CTA something that you actually care about.

Tip 3: Creating Space

  • Create a safe space for your audience! In addition to using CTAs, you should also utilise the other features that your social platform provides.
  • For instance, Instagram stories have stickers for questions, polls and quizzes, which are quick ways that your audience can interact.

Tip 4: Speak Directly

  • Speak directly to your audience.
  • “If you’re speaking to everyone, you’re speaking to no one.”
  • Understand your audience. What do they like? What are they passionate about? What do they believe in? Create content that speaks to them.

Tip 5: Give to Receive

  • Engagement works both ways. You give in order to receive, engage with the profiles that you follow, comment on the profiles that comment on your posts, engage on posts through relevant hashtags.
  • Use the time you spend on your platform intentionally.
